Fire at a local electrical substation knocked out power for 7 hours
22 Dec 2014
As many of you may have noticed, our website was unavailable from about 2:12pm PST to about 9:30pm PST on December 22, 2014. The cause was apparently due to a fire at an electrical substation that knocked out power to a wide swath of the city. Everything is back up and running now as we're gearing up for the big Christmas day just right around the corner!

Serious bug in FS Real Time fixed! Please download the new version!
4 Sep 2014
Fixed a very serious long-standing bug in the FS Real Time Setup where FS Real Time was being installed but then lacked the permission needed to write to its own directory (typically C:\Program Files (x86)\FS Real Time) if an update was detected for users of Windows Vista, 7, 8, or 8.1. This was the main reason for failed automatic updates of FS Real Time (which included the latest problem for some users getting the 'Run-time error 75' crash and for other users where FS Real Time would successfully download but then not apply the update.) IMPORTANT NOTE: To completely fix this issue, IT IS REQUIRED THAT YOU PLEASE DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL THE NEW FS REAL TIME SETUP from our website at http://www.3dsoftworks.net/products/fsrealtime/download.asp.

Users can train anywhere in the virtual world, from under water to sub orbital space.
Denial of Service attack on 3D Softworks website
15 Jan 2013
On January 14th, 2013 at 5:33:45pm PST (Jan 15, 2013 1:33am UTC), a Denial of Service (DoS) attack was detected affecting our Contact Us page and as a precaution, our normal Contact Us page has been temporarily disabled. While we are confident that this DoS attack DID NOT involve the theft of any customer information, the attack almost brought our e-mail server to a halt. We will investigate to the best of our ability the full nature of this attack and hope to restore our full services shortly.
Powerful winds knock website offline
1 Dec 2011
Our website went dark today around 4:00am PST due to recent winds that severed our internet connection. In addition we also lost power for an extended period of time today starting at 7:52am PST. Everything now appears to be returning to normal. The server however will be working a little harder to catch up with the backlog of transactions that have accumulated during the outage and should be back to normal by the end of today. Thank you for your patience.

3D Softworks hit by series of hardware failures
30 Jun 2011
The past week hasn't been kind to our IT staff. The first indication that something was wrong was when our primary server which handles our website measured a dramatic drop in its CPU fan speed which resulted in a temperature spike on that CPU. Naturally, the server initiated an automated shutdown as a result. Once the fan was replaced and the server restarted, everything appeared back to normal. That 'normal' feeling didn't last long. Several hours later, its power supply failed. So we pulled the old supply out and replaced it with a brand new one. Once again we restarted the server and were again thinking 'everything's back to normal.' Once again, that feeling didn't last. The next day, one of the hard drives in its RAID array failed. So we pulled the hard drive out, replaced it, and restarted the server. The following day, the server begins crashing left and right for every little thing; open a window - crash; access the website it serves - crash! So now we have to repair what data corruption has occured. It turns out that this was alot easier than it first appeared. It was done with one simple utility called ChkDsk that fixed our crashing issue by repairing errors on the volume. We thought we were out of the woods but then our backbone to the internet was severed knocking our (now repaired) server offline for two days. At least this last problem wasn't with any of our hardware. We don't anticipate anything else going wrong but we arn't crossing fingers either. Needless to say, the server's going to be a little extra busy the next few days as it plays catch-up with website and e-mail traffic.
Website and e-mail temporarily knocked offline
8 Nov 2010
The 3D Softworks website was not available from 2AM to 11AM PST on November 8th, 2010 due to a failed battery backup device which provides power to our primary web server. Furthermore, e-mails sent to 3D Softworks were returned undeliverable during that time. All systems have been returned to full service now with the replacement of the failed battery backup device. The server will be working a little harder to catch up with the backlog of transactions that have occurred during the outage and should be back to normal by the end of today. Thank you for your patience.

A note regarding delivery of registration keys
23 Nov 2009
Over the past few months, there have been a number of complaints to our support desk regarding non-receipt of newly purchased registration keys. Since Paypal is our primary payment processor, any registration keys issued depends on accurate information provided to Paypal - especially your correct e-mail address. Providing an incorrect e-mail address will delay the delivery of your registration key. Please make sure that if you choose to purchase a registration key for any of our product(s), that you please use your correct e-mail address. Thank you.
FS Real Time update released
7 Feb 2009
A new version of FS Real Time is now available. FS Real Time v1.88.1 is made to keep Flight Simulator's UTC (Zulu/GMT) time and date in sync with the Real World. It can maintain either the current Real Time, or an offset (+/-) so you can fly at any variation from Real Time. Changed in this version is a fix for two broken links in the release notes support page. Also fixed is a bug where FS Real Time would crash when attempting to restore the main FS Real Time window from the system tray if any of its child windows were displayed. Additionally, an improvement in the way the Auto-Update configuration data is handled was implemented. Also improved is the FS Real Time splash screen graphics for a cleaner look and smaller program file size. Lastly, an option was added which when set to true, keeps the splash screen from disappearing until clicked on. Click here to learn more about or download FS Real Time.
FS Real Time v1.88 is available now!
14 Nov 2008
FS Real Time v1.88 (for FSX, FS2004, FS2002, FS2000, FS98, CFS, and CFS2) is made to keep Flight Simulator's UTC (Zulu/GMT) time and date in sync with the Real World. It can maintain either the current Real Time, or an offset (+/-) so you can fly at any variation from Real Time. Changed in this version is a small rearrangement in the setup in which the 'flight simulator selections' setup screen and the 'optional packages to install' setup screen appear. This new arrangement means that the 'optional packages to install' screen can now filter out what packages are not needed and recommend only those packages that should be installed based on the flight simulator selections that were checked on the previous screen. This also allows the selections from the 'flight simulator selections' screen to be remembered if the user returns to that screen after clicking 'next.' Also a bug was fixed where FS Real Time would report that it had connected to FSUIPC through WideFS even though the simulator it connected to is on the same computer instead of a WideFS network connection. Additionally, numerous minor code efficiency enhancements pertaining to the startup of FS Real Time were implemented. An updated FS Real Time icon is also new in this update. Lastly, FS Real Time now includes FSUIPC4 v4.40 and FSUIPC v3.85. Click here for more information.
Important note concerning World Time Zones scenery
19 Oct 2008
It has come to our attention that the latest version of the World Time Zones scenery (v3.51) which comes bundled with FS Real Time is not functioning as it should for a large number of users of FS2004 and FSX. FS Real Time itself is not affected by this issue and continues to correct the flight simulator time as it should. We ask for your patience while we actively investigate the cause of this issue with the World Time Zones scenery. Until we can solve the issues with the World Time Zone scenery, we've posted a current version of FS Real Time bundled with the older World Time Zones v3.0 to facilitate a more stable and immediate fix to the scenery.
New version of Day/Night Terminator Display now available
25 Aug 2008
Day/Night Terminator Display (DNTDisplay) is a free and useful little utility for displaying the current position of the sun (and where ever the sun is rising or setting) upon a map. It can also display and adjust the current location of an aircraft in an FSUIPC connected flight simulator. Also, this utility not only displays the aircraft position, but it also displays its ideal visibility circle. Essentially, this is the circle upon which anything inside circle is visible to the observer. Check the included readme file for a list of changes. Click here to download.
Emails blocked
25 Mar 2008
As many internet providers are blocking spam emails, unfortunally sometimes internet providers also block emails from our system to you.

When you purchase a registration key for one of our software titles, you will receive that registration key immediately by return email.

If this is not the case, it is very likely that your email provider blocks emails coming from our system.

We also noticed that emails sent to 3D Softworks support (http://www.3dsoftworks.net/contact) do reach us, but when we reply, an email bounce is experienced so you might think that we do not react. We react mostly within a few hours or in any case the next business day.

We are working on a new system that will allow us to communicate with you even if your internet provider blocks our emails.

Please check this page frequently for more news.

A Public Service Announcement: On the subject of Piracy
7 Dec 2007
Christmas is right around the corner and you know what that means - Santa Claus is making his list and checking it twice! This is a friendly reminder to all that Piracy is a crime. Piracy not only hurts the developers, it hurts everyone! When pirated software is downloaded, the developer looses necessary funds to continue development which in turn hurts everyone else. Please help us all by being nice (not naughty) to software developers.

FS Real Time and the new DST
5 Apr 2007
As you may know, the US Energy Policy Act of 2005, passed by the US Congress July, 2005, extended Daylight Saving Time (DST) in the US by approximately four weeks. As a result, beginning in 2007, DST started three weeks earlier on March 11, 2007, and will end one week later on November 4, 2007, resulting in a new DST period that is four weeks longer than previously observed.

This change affects any software which has not or cannot be patched. All Microsoft Flight Simulators have their DST switch dates hard-wired in and thus there is no way to programmatically correct this problem with FS Real Time. As these older flight simulators are obsolete, there will be no new patch from Microsoft to correct the changeover dates. Unfortunately, this means that the time in the flight simulator will be off by one hour for a period of approximately 3 weeks in March and one week in October or November.
FS Real Time v1.83 is released
27 Nov 2006
A new version of FS Real Time is here! Whatís new in this version is a completely redesigned FS Real Time Options dialog to make it easier to find the settings you're looking for. Also, a potentially problematic bug was fixed in the FS Real Time setup where it didnít check if FS Real Time itself (or any related programs) was running before continuing with an un-installation or re-installation. This check is now performed. Also, a hard-to-find bug when FS Real Time is used with Nvidia nForce chipsets running Microsoft Windows XP was fixed where FS Real Time wouldn't display the message indicating that a previous instance of itself was already running in memory. Lastly, a new ability was added to FS Real Time that optionally displays a confirmation dialog box asking for permission to connect to an already running flight simulator. Time Zone Scenery Designers Needed
8 Oct 2006
We're looking for scenery designers who can create and modify time zone scenery for FS98, FS2000, FS2002, FS2004, and for FSX. Anyone interested should contact Joshua Robertson using the 'Contact Us' link on the right. Please state your past experience when applying, thank you. (Please note: This is a non-pay voluntary position however a free registration key will be issued for FS Real Time. The new Scenery Designer will also receive proper credit within the FS Real Time documentation for their work.)
FS Real Time for FSX Statement
8 Oct 2006
We are working hard to update FS Real Time to make it compatible for FSX. There are however some hurdles to overcome. Dennis Thompson (the creator of the World Time Zone BGLs) hasn't indicated that he will continue to make the time zone scenery for FSX. This is a serious blow to the FS Real Time project as the release of Flight Simulator X is imminent and there has been no word from Dennis Thompson. Also, we are working to obtain all information about Pete Dowsons FSUIPC4 which will be needed to interface between FSX and FS Real Time. At this time, the release of FS Real Time for FSX will be entirely dependant on when FSUIPC4 is released. Please expect FS Real Time for FSX to be released tentatively one to two weeks after FSUIPC4 is released. More details to come.
Important Notice Regarding E-Mail to 3dsoftworks.net
26 Jul 2006

This e-mail server has been replaced however we ask that if you have sent an e-mail between July 22nd and July 24th, that you please re-send your e-mail. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.
FS Real Time v1.80 is released
12 Jun 2006
A new version of FS Real Time is here. With this new version comes compatibility and support with Microsoft Windows Vista! Also in this version, the contextual help was upgraded to the HTMLHelp System which not only cleared the way for Vista compatibility but also allows the contextual help to display much richer content than what was possible before. This version of FS Real Time also sports a few new fixes and enhancements of which you can read about in the release notes available on the FS Real Time website here.
Announcing FS Real Time v1.79
5 Apr 2006
The next version of FS Real Time is coming! Version 1.79 offers a few new improvements over its predecessor. Whats been added is a new method for setting the local time and date within the Flight Simulator. This feature is very similar to the 'Set Time and Season' feature within Flight Simulator with one important difference -- FS Real Time now allows you to modify the local time and date whereas Flight Simulator only allows you to adjust the local time and not the local date. Also added is the ability for FS Real Time to display which Flight Simulator it will start and connect to on the "Connect / Disconnect" button when FS Real Time is set to automatically start the Flight Simulator. This feature was added based on user feedback. Elsewhere, numerous bug fixes, FS Real Time code efficiency enhancements and clean-ups were implemented. FS Real Time v1.79 is scheduled to be released on Saturday, April 8th. For more information about or to download FS Real Time click here.
Scheduled Server Maintenance
30 Mar 2006
We will be performing scheduled server maintenance on Sunday, April 2, 2006 starting at 23:00 PDT and ending on Monday, April 3, 2006 at 03:00 PDT. Both the 3D Softworks Website and the 3D Softworks Email servers will be unavailable during this planned outage. Thank you for your understanding.
New Day & Night Terminator Display utility for Flight Simulator 2004
19 Feb 2006
Quite simply, this is a utility that displays where the daytime and nighttime sky is. This utility interfaces with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 through the use of FSUIPC. When connected to the Flight Simulator, it displays the daytime and nighttime locations within the simulator. This can be useful for finding a specific area of the world to fly in - whether it be daytime or nighttime. Also, this utility not only displays the aircraft position, but it also displays its ideal visibility circle. Essentially, this is the circle upon which anything inside circle is visible to the observer. Furthermore, this utility allows the repositioning of the aircraft within the Flight Simulator by simply right-clicking anywhere on the world map. Check the included readme file for a list of changes. Click here to download.
Transparent improvement in our website enables much better service commitment
13 Feb 2006
Even though our website looks the same as it did before this article was posted, a rather important improvement has been made that improves the way we upload news to our website. Previously, we added news articles to our website by directly editing our news pages. Potentially, that could have led to many problems (especially as our website continues to evolve and grow). We have now implemented a database-driven approach where any new news articles are now posted to an internal database and our news pages read the articles from that database. This approach greatly enhances the way we are able to conduct business by allowing us to better focus on our website content rather than the technical aspect of maintaining our website.
Repair of failed server equipment complete
28 Jan 2006
As you may have noticed, the 3D Softworks website has had intermittent outages over the past few days. This was due to a failed hard drive in our primary web server. All systems have been returned to full service now with the replacement of the failed hard drive. The server will be working a little harder to catch up with the backlog of transactions that have occurred during the outage and should be back to normal by the end of today. Thank you for your patience.
Service Release for FS Real Time v1.78 made available
7 Jan 2006
FS Real Time v1.78.4 was released very quickly after 1.78 to fix two newly revealed problems. Unfortunately it was discovered, just after release, that a bug within FS Real Time (that was apparently introduced in v1.78 with the addition of the Microsoft FSX flight simulator to its list of supported simulators) wouldn't enable the Auto-Start Flight Simulator feature if any less than two Flight Simulators were installed. This feature has been restored and now once again disables the Auto-Start option if there are no supported flight simulators detected. This was a minor omission that actually unmasked another error which was hidden beforehand. Also, a bug was fixed within FS Real Time where users of the Mozilla Firefox internet browser software were receiving the error "c is not a registered protocol." when attempting to make a donation by clicking on the Make a Donation button within the Paypal window inside the FS Real Time application. To learn more about (or to download) FS Real Time, click here.
FS Real Time v1.78 is here
3 Jan 2006
It's been a while since FS Real Time was last updated but I believe that it's been worth the wait. New in this version is the ability to check for new versions of FS Real Time at the 3D Softworks website using the "Check for updates..." option within the Help menu of FS Real Time. Also a new option has been added to enable or disable performing an update when the flight simulator is locked due to menu access or when displaying a modal window. Previously, there was no option to disable this feature and FS Real Time was performing an update automatically due to menu access. With the announcement of a new Flight Simulator by Microsoft, we've prepared FS Real Time for its eventual release. This preparation is well in advance of the actual release but is deemed necessary to allow time for testing purposes so that when Microsoft releases their new Flight Simulator, an updated FS Real Time software package can be released soon afterwards. We also fixed a bug causing a limitation where if the FS UTC Offset was set to an offset of greater than 24,855 days, 3 hours, 14 minutes, 7 seconds (approximately 68 years) into the past or into the future, then FS Real Time would display an overflow error and then crash. FS Real Time is now capable of setting offsets of up to approximately 1,900 years into the past or 4,000 years into the future. Lastly, we've increased the evaluation period from 20 minutes to 1 hour based on user feedback. To learn more about (or to download) FS Real Time, click here.
Our 3D Softworks website has a new look
22 Dec 2005
Welcome to the newly redesigned 3D Softworks web site. We had several goals for the recently launched redesign of the 3D Softworks web site:
  • Increase download speed.
  • Facilitate navigation of our increasingly large site.
  • Provide a unified visual appearance of our highly diverse content.
  • Ensure high usability and a quality user experience: we conducted user tests of several advanced Web design concepts but found that users preferred a simpler approach with established interaction principles.
  • Replace our 2002 design which had become outdated (it is a testament to its quality that a design launched in December 2002 lasted more than two years: normally it is recommended to redesign a site every year).
Network upgrade work completed
30 Oct 2005
We are proud to announce that we have moved to a much faster internet connection. This should alleviate most if not all technical reasons for not being able to connect to the 3D Softworks website. So go ahead and start your downloads!
FS Real Time v1.77 Announcement
29 Sep 2005
FS Real Time has once again been updated! New in this version is the completely reworked FS UTC Offset feature. Now, instead of the FS UTC Offset taking up almost the entire frame, it has now been moved to its own toolbox window to allow more room for other features such as an improved Ephemeris Calculator button placement. This rearrangement opened up space to include a few additional features as well. Among these new features is FS Real Times ability to display the actual offset that its using to modify the UTC time within the flight simulator. Also, two new buttons have been added that makes setting the offset easier. The first button, "Set to Now", resets the offset to zero and performs an update automatically with just a single click unlike before where resetting the offset required clicking "Now" and then "Set". The new "Set to Offset" feature commands FS Real Time to simply perform an update using the existing offset. There have also been improvements in numerous other areas as well -- too many to list here. The initial release date of the new version is tentatively set for October 2, 2005 pending final beta testing. Stay tuned for more information. If you'd like more information about FS Real Time, click here.
FS Real Time v1.76 is released
31 Jul 2005
The latest version of FS Real Time has been released. In this version, there have been a few bug fixes mainly in having to deal with the Ephemeris Calculator. The internal load and save settings functions have been re-organized for better efficiency which also allowed for the creation of an option to disable the splash screen for FS Real Time. This means that FS Real Time can start with a slightly faster start-up time. There has also been a few corrections to the User Guide which have been addressed by this version. If you'd like to learn more about FS Real Time, click here.
FS Real Time v1.75 is released
19 Jun 2005
FS Real Time v1.75 has now been released! The new version of FS Real Time features a new "Minimize-to-tray" feature that effectively reduces its footprint on your screen to a mere 16 pixels high by 16 pixels wide. Also new is a complete User Guide which details each and every aspect of FS Real Time. Click here if you'd like to learn more about FS Real Time and also for download locations.
Release date set for FS Real Time v1.75
29 May 2005
A lot has been going on behind closed doors at 3D Softworks. We are now happy to announce that a release date has been set for FS Real Time v1.75. The new version of FS Real Time features a new "Minimize-to-tray" feature that effectively reduces its footprint on your screen to a mere 16 pixels high by 16 pixels wide. Also new is a complete Users Manual which details each and every aspect of FS Real Time. We are very excited about this but we still have some kinks to iron out and the Users Manual is as of yet not finished so we still have some work to do. Therefore, our target date for release is tentatively set for June 20th. Stay tuned for more information! If you'd like to learn more about FS Real Time, click here.
The 3D Softworks website is changing -- slightly
11 May 2005
There has been a few minor improvements to our website. First, and most notably is our Newswire service. This is now our primary area for issuing news and announcements and anything else that we deem is worthy of attention. Secondly, we are pleased to announce that we're in the process of redesigning our "flight sim" area. Once complete, our "flight sim" area will be divided into several sections. Our "Freeware Software Selections" section will host our offerings of downloads available at no cost. Our "Premium Software Selections" section will host our commercial software offerings and a third section will be dedicated to our "General Support" area for questions not directly product related. We feel these improvements will help add to the quality of our website and hope that it makes for a more enjoyable experience for all who visit 3D Softworks online.
Details on upcoming FS Real Time v1.75 release
8 May 2005
While no release date is set as of yet, we can tell you that a fully documented users manual is in the works and will detail each and every aspect of using FS Real Time. It will also include several tips-and-tricks from the author on best practices for using FS Real Time with Flight Simulator. More information will come soon so stay tuned! If you would like to learn more about FS Real Time, click here.
Important information regarding e-mail delivery
10 Apr 2005
Due to an unfortunate hardware failure that crippled our primary server on April 6, 2005, any e-mail messages sent to 3D Softworks between April 6, 2005 and April 9, 2005 were not delivered. Additionally, any e-mail that was sent to us was supposed to be routed to the backup server during the repair of our primary server (which handles our website and e-mail traffic.) Instead, incoming e-mail was being refused delivery altogether. Because we believe in the philosophy of "Backup early, backup often", the damage caused by both incidents was kept to a minimum and both incidents have been resolved. However, if you have sent an e-mail between March 1, 2005 and April 9, 2005 and have not received a reply back, then we ask that you please resend your e-mail correspondence again. We strive to provide the best possible service and when unforeseen events such as this happen, it can be a frustrating experience. Therefore, we at 3D Softworks apologize for any inconvenience this has caused. Thank you.
